I really hate it when I get all introspective but that&#8217;s a whole different story. However whenever I do think about atonement or forgiveness I try to remind myself of this wonderful poem by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sam_Walter_Foss\">Samuel Walter Foss<\/a> &#8230; I&#8217;m not sure if the sentiment is one I&#8217;m ready to try to live by but I guess it&#8217;s something to aspire towards &#8230; <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<pre>\r\n      House by the side of the Road\r\n                    by\r\n            Samuel Walter Foss\r\n\r\nThere are hermit souls that live withdrawn\r\nIn the place of their self-content;\r\nThere are souls like stars, that dwell apart,\r\nIn a fellowless firmament;\r\nThere are pioneer souls that blaze the paths\r\nWhere highways never ran-\r\nBut let me live by the side of the road\r\nAnd be a friend to man.\r\n\r\nLet me live in a house by the side of the road\r\nWhere the race of men go by-\r\nThe men who are good and the men who are bad,\r\nAs good and as bad as I.\r\nI would not sit in the scorner's seat\r\nNor hurl the cynic's ban-\r\nLet me live in a house by the side of the road\r\nAnd be a friend to man.\r\n\r\nI see from my house by the side of the road\r\nBy the side of the highway of life,\r\nThe men who press with the ardor of hope,\r\nThe men who are faint with the strife,\r\nBut I turn not away from their smiles and tears,\r\nBoth parts of an infinite plan-\r\nLet me live in a house by the side of the road\r\nAnd be a friend to man.\r\n\r\nI know there are brook-gladdened meadows ahead,\r\nAnd mountains of wearisome height;\r\nThat the road passes on through the long afternoon\r\nAnd stretches away to the night.\r\nAnd still I rejoice when the travelers rejoice\r\nAnd weep with the strangers that moan,\r\nNor live in my house by the side of the road\r\nLike a man who dwells alone.\r\n\r\nLet me live in my house by the side of the road,\r\nWhere the race of men go by-\r\nThey are good, they are bad, they are weak, they are strong,\r\nWise, foolish - so am I.\r\nThen why should I sit in the scorner's seat,\r\nOr hurl the cynic's ban?\r\nLet me live in my house by the side of the road\r\nAnd be a friend to man.\r\n\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Watching the story of Hiumara Kenshin got me thinking a lot about atonement and also forgiveness.
